UPDATES: City of Williamsburg (2:41pm EST)

City of Williamsburg Storm Updates

The City of Williamsburg Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reports that the effects of Hurricane Irene are intensifying in the City. There have been increasing instances of trees down in the City, strong rain and wind gusts causing hazardous driving conditions. Public Works crews are being dispatched to clear the trees, and residents are urged to stay off the roads so as not to impede public safety staff.

Currently there are 925 residents in the City without power. Residents who experience power outages should call Dominion Power at 866-366-4357.

The City Shelter, located in the Quarterpath Recreation Center at 202 Quarterpath Road, has been operating since 8am and there are currently 8 individuals there. For information on what to bring to the shelter go to the city’s website at williamsburgva.gov/emergency or call 757-259-7200.

The Public Inquiry number for citizens is 757-259-7200. In an emergency citizens should continue to call 911.

The City will air updates on WMBG 740 AM radio every hour at 15 past the hour, beginning at 3:15pm.

City Manager Jack Tuttle has declared a local emergency for the City of Williamsburg and urges citizens to log on to the city’s website (www.williamsburgva.gov/emergency), sign up for email updates through Enotify, follow the city on Facebook (Williamsburg.Virginia) and twitter (@WilliamsburgGov), sign up for text messages at City 411, watch WMSBG Channel 48, and monitor local news for information on preparing for the storm, sheltering in place and after the storm news and updates. Residents are asked to call 757-259-7200, for special needs assistance.
